Our last night before Kharthoum was spent camping in the sand dunes near these pyramids at Meroe.
No sound and light show here as at Giza in Egypt!

By the way, found another Englishman who did Alex to Cape; in 1979,-81 (over 27 mths!) now EU Rep in NZ, oddly enough, George Cunningham.
And found a brief ref to your Gpa, Hugo, in "Gates of Africa" by Anthony Sattin.
